A senior journalist, activist, and editor of Kannada tabloid ‘Gauri Lankesh Patrike’, Gauri Lankesh shot dead in Bengaluru. She was murdered at her home on Tuesday. She was known for her anti-establishment and fearless journalistic ability. But she is now dead.
Lankesh, 55 murdered at her home while she returning and entering the house. She parked her car outside the gate and was walking to the main entrance when the attacker fired seven rounds. She ran to the gate but she couldn’t and died instantly.
Three bullets hit Lankesh in the head, neck, and chest, while four struck the front wall of the house. Lankesh died instantly, police said.
“Three special teams set up to crack the case are on the lookout for the suspected assailants. We are taking the movements of people and vehicles at check posts and inter-state borders,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) M.N. Anucheth said.
Karnataka Law Minister TB Jayachandra has agreed that there are similarities with the murder of Kannada writer MM Kalburgi, who was shot dead by two bikers at his home in Dharwad. “We can’t rule out that it is like Kalburgi issue,” Mr. Jayachandra said.
Both are working on anti establishment issues and always created news about wrongdoing in government.
