National Security Adviser Ajit Doval is attending the seventh BRICS meeting of national security advisers. During his opening remarks, he urged the Brazil, Russia, India, China, South-Afirca(BRICS) grouping “to show leadership in countering terrorism”.
He said, “It is natural we should hold a BRICS forum to discuss security issues that impact global peace and stability.” He proposed an international leadership in countering terrorism, in tune with the growing role of the emerging economies in setting the global agenda.
Along with tensions on terrorism, India is currently engaged in a serious dispute on Doklam plateau area with China. The contradictory relationship, where collaboration co-exists with serious differences, was evident when Mr. Doval met with China’s State Councilor Yang Jichei on Thursday evening. The meeting between Mr. Doval and Mr. Yang, who are also both serving Special Representatives on the China-India boundary talks, comes amid modest expectations that a framework for a gradual de-escalation of the Doklam crisis may emerge.
